The Desert Oasis Flag Football team is doing very well this season and have won 22 of their 26 games. They are on there way to finals this weekend because of their success. They have had many great plays and victories throughout the season, but one of the most important part behind their wins is the incredible teamwork between these girls.
“I love this sport a lot. Something that makes this team so special to me is always having people here for me on the field and off of the field. My teammates always have my back,” said Brooke Campion, varsity flag football player.
This shows that it’s not only the sport that is loved, but it’s being included and apart of a team that helps to give these girls the motivation and drive that they have. The teammates have a strong friendship that helps them perform better on the field.
“I’ve never had better teammates, no matter when they are always building me up and encouraging me to be better,” said Aniyah I’i, varsity flag football player.
The football team beat Bishop Gorman on January 29th with a final score of 26-18. Considering how good Bishop Gorman sports are this is a big victory for Desert Oasis. Campion and I’i were asked how they felt about winning this opposing team.
“It was great, actually it was kind of funny because they were talking so much about how we should be ready to loose and we showed them who’s boss,” explained Campion.
Must have felt great for the team. Having bad sportsmanship can really set a bad reputation for some teams so now we see their true colors through how they acted towards our girls on the field.
“Honestly every win is a good one but I love when we get an unexpected win it makes winning so much more fun,” said I’i.
These girls spend a lot of their time working towards reaching their goals for this sport and try to win as many games are they can. They deserve some support and love from their peers as well. Not a lot of people go to flag football games that aren’t directly related to these players, however they do deserve some support from the school that they represent out there on the field.
“I don’t mind not having a big crowd but sometimes I wonder what our games would be like if they had the same amount of people fall football games have. I don’t blame people though, its cold out there,” said I’i.
Next season their should be more advertisement and excitement around flag football like how there is for fall football, basketball, and other sports. The support will really encourage the players to do their best and give them the support that they deserve. Desert Oasis as a whole should wish these girls luck as they are on their way to their playoff games and show them the appreciation they deserve since they are representing Desert Oasis.
