The Met Gala is often dubbed as “fashion’s biggest night out.” It is an annual fundraising event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, to mark the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibit. With the history of the Met Gala dating back to 1948, it has evolved into a globally recognized spectacle that brings together celebrities, fashion designers, and enthusiasts alike.
Like always, the event will take place on the first Monday of May, making the event take place on the sixth of that month. And as always, people look forward to seeing what the theme will be each year. Every year the theme must match the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibit and the new exhibit for this year is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Which makes this year’s official dress code, “The Garden of Time.” The theme is inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same title, written in 1962, which is both romantic, nightmarish, and apocalyptic, though it can also be interpreted in many different ways. Though the name indicates that we will see a lot of florals. The exhibit within the museum will cover more than four centuries of fashion evolution, the collection will feature creations from designers like Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy, and others. Additionally, delicate garments, like a Charles Frederick Worth ballgown dating back to 1877, will be showcased using other innovative techniques such as video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and various sensory experiences, as they are too fragile to be worn.
So who will be hosting the event? This year, the hosts for the event are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. As for the invitations and the seating chart, that will be kept as a top secret until the evening before the event.
The Met Gala is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated and celebrated night outs in the fashion industry. Even with the ever-changing themes, the event remains a must-see occasion that showcases the latest fashions and brings the world’s spotlight to the Costume Institute’s annual exhibit.
