April 8, 2024, the solar eclipse was seen across the nation!
The eclipse passed through Mexico, Canada, and the U.S from places like Texas, Indiana, New York, etc. The eclipse could be seen from other states and cities that weren’t in the direct path, such as Vegas. Everyone across the nation gathered to see the solar eclipse. This was the first eclipse since 2017. Solar eclipses are a rare phenomenon. Students from D.O were excited to witness this event.
“The solar eclipse was awesome! I got to see it during art class since there is a courtyard,” said Ava Murphy, a freshman D.O.
Las Vegas was able to witness a partial part of the eclipse, about 60% totality. Although it was partial, Vegas is lucky to be able to witness such a once-in-a-lifetime event.
“I would describe it as very cool to see especially through glasses since it looked like the moon but instead it was the sun. It felt sad since I wish we could have had a total but we didn’t luck out, at least we got to see a bit of it!” stated Murphy.
The entire event lasted 4 minutes and 28 seconds. Even though Las Vegas didn’t get the whole experience, the next eclipse visible from Las Vegas will be in 2044. Las Vegas is predicted to have their next eclipse sometime in November of 2207. The next solar eclipse will be in 2026, where it will be visible from the Arctic Ocean.
