On the morning of August 23, 2024, Desert Oasis seniors gathered on the football field to celebrate the beginning of their senior journey.
Music blared throughout the morning as donuts, energy drinks, water, and more, were sold/given out to students.
“I came with some friends, and took some photos,” stated senior Aaliyah Thompson,” I liked the little art that they had, it was nice!”
The event began at 5:30 AM, and soon after, the field was overrun with students. As students entered the field, staff sat at the entrance collecting black DOHS lanyards and swapping them for the red senior lanyards; fully setting off the year.
Senior Sunrise is the first of many major events seniors get to enjoy. This day is a morning to celebrate the start of the final year of high school. Although waking up at 4:00 AM was an unpleasant experience for most, decorating crowns and being with friends seemed to be worth the early morning.
Senior, Avery Bautista, commented,” We were just talking back to freshman year because we’ve known each other since freshman year. It was a reminiscing moment. I mean, we talked a lot about, like, knowing each other and just life in general, and what we’re gonna do after high school.”
Overall the event was a grand success, social media was flooded with sunrise photos and everyone appeared cheerful. To end the event, staff herded students up onto the bleachers and took a class photograph.
“Being there and, kind of living in the moment, even though it’s just a simple thing, like making a crown and going to take pictures, or not taking pictures, or just hanging out with your friends and watching the sunset,” added Bautista, “to me, personally, I think it gave me a moment to just talk and reminisce.”
