CCSD New Pouch Law
Starting this new 2024-2025 Nevada school year, CCSD has gained a new law with student’s cell phones, only explicit for grades 6-12. This new law restricts the students time with their cell phones allowing them to focus and pay attention more during class hours. The pouches do not lock, but they do block signals, calls and headphones, allowing students to be distraction free while learning. Students may be allowed to have their phones during lunch, passing time, five minutes before the bell rings. Students are not permitted to have their phones during bathroom breaks which allows bathroom breaks to be a faster process.
The Idea Of The Pouches
One of the main ideas CCSD made for this new cell phone pouch law is to prevent bullying. This school year the parents’ concern was focused on their child’s mental health. In person bullying and cyberbullying can be prevented during class by putting their phones in pouches allowing them to focus on themselves and school work. CCSD has proposed to change the law to prevent bullying and protect the victims of bullying. Rather than the bullied victim having to leave the school, CCSD’s proposed law will change that into the bully having to be transferred to a new school whether the victim decides to stay in their current school or not. This law gives the victim the freedom of choice of protecting themselves without having to start completely fresh.
New Badge Policy
Students in middle school and high school are now only allowed on campus with their student ID badge. If the students access the campus without a badge they will be charged for a brand new lanyard and ID on their student account. This new lanyard costs approximately five to eight dollars. You will be charged as many times to get a new lanyard and the costs will add up on your account.
Student From Desert Oasis Says…
Student Valeria, a current Sophomore, has some interesting thoughts about the new policy. She claims, “the new policy is intimidating at first, but I believe it helps you build relationships with your classmates and focus more in class.”
