Clark County School District is holding the Las Vegas Sun Youth Forum on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Cimarron Memorial High School. CCSD invites teachers, advisors, and Junior/Seniors (only) to attend this special event where student voices are heard.
The Sun Youth Forum gives students the opportunity to express their opinions with other individuals and expand their perspectives amongst one another. The Sun Youth Forum is not a competition and has been the longest running media-sponsored teen forum in the US. Discussions at the Forum include: America, Around the World, Home in Nevada, Law and Crime, This and That, School Days, and Teen Topics.
CCSD are looking for the maximum of twenty-one students, separated in groups of seven, to attend the Sun Youth Forum. Any additional students who are interested will be placed on the waitlist tab, which allows advisors to submit a substitution form until noon on September 13, 2024.
The first meeting was on Tuesday on August 27th where students should have been provided multiple forms at this interest meeting. These forms include a field trip permit, medical form, media release, participation agreement, and a LV Sun Waiver.
The Sun Youth Forum will begin on September 16, 2024, on a staff development day. Students are encouraged to attend their high school to meet for transportation to and from the Forum. A bus will be provided by CCSD Student Activities the day of. The Sun Youth Forum will begin at 8 A.M. and finish around 1:30 P.M.
The Forum includes many potential opportunities for participating students. Scholarships will be raffled and announced at lunch on the day of the event for all students, not just their representatives. Multiple organizations are also known for offering scholarships for students who simply attend the event.
The Sun Youth Forum grants students the opportunity to express their opinions on controversial topics amongst other individuals who share the same interest. This also allows students to try and promote their solutions to higher officials for a better understanding. Discussion groups among students will be witnessed by community members like senators and congressmen, state and city officials, lawmakers, business executives, and educators/community activists.
