Formula 1 begins to prepare for its anticipated return to Las Vegas in November 2024, construction just beginning 3 months before the set race date.
This year’s preparation has been extensive for F1. Compared to last year, construction is expected to last only 3 months compared to last year’s construction taking 9 months, a significantly reduced time.
CONSTRUCTION DATES
The Las Vegas race is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024. September 2-September 20, there will be only one lane on Harmon Avenue between Las Vegas Boulevard and Koval Lone will be closed from 9 PM-6 AM each night.
During the closure, a track light will be installed which is essential for the race. Top Golf Avenue Bridge will receive construction during this period but is expected to have minimal impact on Harmon Avenue.
From September 2-September 6, Koval Lane at Rochelle Avenue will have lanes closed in both directions to accommodate the construction of the Rochelle Pedestrian Bridge. The closure will be between 9 PM-6 AM as well.
BUSINESS AND TRAFFIC CONCERNS
One of the most important changes under discussion is the F1 bridge on Flamingo Road and over Koval Lane. Last year, the bridge was a major complication due to the traffic it was causing due to only having one entrance and exit available.
Local business owners have been voicing their concerns with the bridge. Owners have noticed a drop in their profits during last year’s event. Due to this, legal action against F1 has been taken by some and others only have threatened.
At a recent Clark County Commission meeting, business owners gathered together to discuss their concerns and express their frustrations over the bridge’s impact on traffic and business. F1 submitted a plan to Clark County on May 1, but no details were shared with local business owners.
The traffic plans will be received via text messages and online, still the same from last year. Lori Nelson-Kraft, Senior Vice President of corporate affairs for the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, has assured the public that there will be no paving this year, which should help alleviate some concerns.
NEW ATTRACTIONS COMING THIS YEAR
Despite the challenges, this year’s event will be introducing more events. On top of the Paddock Club an ice rink will be installed to offer a unique experience for spectators. To add, the Ferrari Challenge will be featured at this year’s race.
F1 will be showcasing F1 Academy during the race weekend. F1 Academy is a female-only racing series to expand opportunities in the sport of racing.
As the Las Vegas Grand Prix draws close, F1 officials remain committed to addressing concerns while pushing forward with their ambitious plans.
“The lawsuits are one thing that I probably can’t talk about, but we’ve tried our best to make things right, so hopefully they’ll get on board,” said an F1 representative.
With a $650 million investment in Las Vegas, F1 is determined to make the Sin City race a flagship event to build better relationships with businesses and local resorts.
