Sean Combs, better known as Diddy, has been arrested on the charges of sex trafficking, transporting individuals for prostitution, and racketeering.
A 14-page indictment brings accusations against Combs of running an operation that involves exploitation of women. According to prosecutors, Combs abused his powers, employees, and business resources to operate an illegal enterprise. The sexual abuse and trafficking of women has happened across states and even internationally.
Combs organized “Freak Offs,” according to the indictment. Women were pressured to engage in sexual acts with sex workers while being filmed without their consent.
The accusations against Combs have ranged from violent threats, financially damaging others and their careers, and using tactics to intimidate women to get them to comply. Women were hit, dragged, and kicked by Combs according to the indictment.
Cassandra Ventura- Combs former partner- was allegedly abused by the singer at a hotel located in California. The moment that Combs assaulted Ventura was captured on video that was leaked on the internet. Combs attempted to bribe the hotel security guard to stay silent about the situation.
According to prosecutors, Combs used firearms to frighten victims and any potential witnesses. Officers who searched Combs’ property reported rifles with defaced serial numbers with high-capacity drum magazines. This raised concerns about Combs use and control with weapons.
Combs’ legal troubles started in November of 2023. A lawsuit filed against Combs by Ventura accused him of misconduct. Due to this lawsuit, more allegations against Combs from other women began to surface. 2 more lawsuits against Combs were filed the same week. One lawsuit even claiming the Combs choked her to unconsciousness.
The accusations didn’t stop there. In December 2023, a civil lawsuit was filed against Combs claiming that she was a victim of trafficking by Combs when she was just 17 years old. 2 months later in February 2024, another lawsuit was filed. It was by Combs’ former producer, Rodney Jones Jr. Combs was accused of attempted grooming and participating in sexual activities.
In March 2024, Combs’ had his properties raided by authorities, seizing electronic devices during this. Over 1,000 bottles of baby oils were seized as well with bottles of lubricant. Combs was detained at an airport in Miami while leaving the country to visit the Bahamas.
The New York Adult Survivors Act, a law that allowed victims to bring legal actions even if the statute of limitations passed, expired after most of these lawsuits had been filed.
Combs is denied all and any accusations made against him. His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, expressed his frustration with the prosecution. Agnigilo called the case “unjust” in a statement where he also described Combs as an “innocent man” and mentioned the reputation Combs has in the music industry.
“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire and uplifting his community,” Agnifilo said in a statement.
Assistant District Attorney Emily A. Johnson labels Combs a “serial abuser.” Johnson characterizes Combs to be “an extreme danger to the community” and makes a reference of Combs’ history of avoiding legal actions against him. Agnifilo believes that Combs’ name will be cleared during his trial.
Combs will continue to be held without bail. He will be held in a special unit at the Metropolitan Detention-Center in Brooklyn. Combs has also been placed on suicide watch.
