The 2024 F1 season has come to a close with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been the concluding race since 2009, taking place at the luxurious Yas Marina circuit, surrounded by the views of Yas Island.
Lando Norris secured the constructor’s championship for Mclaren with a first place finish. Although he couldn’t secure the Driver’s Championship, Norris helped Mclaren with their first constructors championship win since 1998.
Lewis Hamilton put on an excellent performance for his last race with Mercedes, putting to rest a 12 year partnership. Although he started 16th, he scaled the grid an impressive twelve places to finish in fourth place. Hamilton passed his teammate, George Russell, on the final lap just moments before crossing the checkered flag, cementing his legacy at Mercedes with a final friendly competition between him and his teammate. Next year, Hamilton will race in all red for the Ferrari Racing Team alongside Charles Leclerc.
Other drivers are moving around, too. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was ousted from his seat by Hamilton, and will be taking a seat at Williams. The news was disappointing to many, as Williams hasn’t been necessarily successful in not only this season, but
in past seasons as well. This season, the team had to cut American driver Logan Sargent from his seat, where he was replaced by Argentine racer Franco Colapinto. Colapinto proceeded to crash twice in one weekend after his debut; completely normal for any rookie, I’d say!
There are also rumors circulating around the grid that Sergio Perez will not be staying at Redbull. Names like Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson of the Visa Cash App Redbull team are being thrown around as potential replacements for Perez. Perez suffered an almost unlucky streak of performances this year, likely costing Red Bull the constructors championship.
From what we know now, it seems like the next season of F1 is sure to be thrilling, action packed and exhilarating. New drivers, new teams, and new cars – it doesn’t get better than that!
