Athlete of the Month: Jaiden Fisher

Destiny Chee

For Jaiden Fisher, ever since he picked up a basketball he has a passion and love for the sport. All the time that he has spent loving the sport and working hard is finally paying off after everything. For the month of January, Jaiden was recognized for being athlete of the month.

“I feel good about being athlete of the month and that all my hard work has finally paid off,” Jaiden said.

Jaiden is a junior that is on varsity but this isn’t the first year on varsity, matter of fact Jaiden has been on varsity ever since he was a freshman. Jaiden has been playing basketball since he was 10 years old.

“I just started watching it on TV and saw how fun it looked and I started playing”

At first he started liking the game because he watched it on TV, but then he stepped on the court and that’s when he realized he loved the sport and wanted to make something out of it. Not only does Jaiden love playing basketball and the game itself but he also loves who he is playing with.

“Honestly I don’t know where I would be without my team,” Jaiden said “they mean everything to me and I can’t imagine them not in my life.”

Jaiden is with his teammates almost everyday and their relationship with each other has changed throughout the years from being just friends to a family. On and off the court, Jaiden is a great teammate but not only that but as well a hard worker, good friend, a leader, thoughtful, funny, caring, and smart.

“I’m proud of Jaiden. He deserved to be athlete of the month and without him playing in the games we would be almost lost.” DJ Bailey, a teammate and a friend of Jaiden said.

Jaiden is a good friend, teammate, and a great leader that is just beginning his journey. Going on forward he hopes to play basketball in college for any school and hopefully go pro one day. Although, on top of everything and chasing after his dreams, Jaiden still manages to keep up with his grades.

“I always put school first before basketball. I like to make sure to keep up with my grades and make sure all my school work is done before I can go and hoop,” Jaiden said.

As every student athlete knows that it is important to keep up with grades. Not only has Jaiden’s IQ been raised in school but it also has on the court. Since Jaiden first started playing he has learned a whole new skillset for the game and can bring a lot more aspects to the game.

“Playing basketball hasn’t only made me good on the court but it’s also changed how I was off the court because in basketball I put full potential in it and I’ve learned to put that same amount of effort into different things like school and helping around the house.”

Jaiden has learned great leadership skills from basketball but he likes to make sures he has fun too.

“Some of my favorite memories are in the locker room after a win and we’re all excited and hyped up.”

Even through all the ups and downs of playing basketball, Jaiden loves playing it and is excited to keep playing it. He loves playing it for the game and the great time he has with his teammates.

“If you care and love the sport, you should try and find time for it and put the work in because in the end,” Jaiden says, “it all pays off.”
