On November 2, 2021, 3:40AM Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs fatally killed Tina Tintor in an alcohol-related crash.
Ruggs played college football at University of Alabama, where his team won the championships in 2018. During his senior year of college in 2020 he entered the NFL draft. Since then he has played for the Las Vegas Raiders as the wide receiver. After the crash the Raiders released Ruggs from their roster. DeSean Jackson was signed to replace Ruggs.
Ruggs had a blood alcohol level of .16 at the time of the crash. That is 2 times the legal limit in Nevada. Ruggs was driving at a speed of 156 MPH.
Since his arrest Ruggs had been on strict house arrest after posting bail of $150,000. This case had taken nearly 2 years to resolve the plea deal between Ruggs attorney and the defense. Clark county judge Jennifer Schwartz sentenced Ruggs to 10 years with possibility of parole after 3.
Ruggs pleaded guilty on one count of driving impaired, and another on manslaughter. Ruggs fans have very mixed emotions about his sentencing. Few people believe that the sentence he received was fair, while others believed he should have gotten more time. Ajanae Cole, student from Desert Oasis High School and raiders fan stated,”I think Henry Ruggs sentencing was fair because his driving was reckless. He got in the car drunk, and killed someone in the process, so getting 10 years is justified.”
Ruggs claims that his actions were, “not a true reflection” of himself. Many football fans and even just raiders fans believe his sentencing was more than fair.
