Friday, August 11th, marked brand new beginnings as the first event for seniors. The special morning gathered seniors and allowed them to watch the sunrise.
“I wanted to go to senior sunset to hang out with friends, but I ended up getting such a memorable experience from it,” stated senior Naima Parker.
The event, which started at 5:30am, contained multiple activities, which included decorated walls for pictures, a “What’s your goal?” booth where you could sign your name, as well as a Ladder Toss station.
“I think my favorite part was seeing the crowns. Most of them looked great. Mine was inspired off of a child’s notebook that I let other seniors sign,” replied senior Jaisley Napeahi Salazar, when asked about her favorite part of Senior Sunset.
The event as a whole seemed to be a major event for most seniors, providing them with interesting and new experiences, as well as ‘soft-launching’ their senior year in a memorable way.
“My favorite part of the entire event was experiencing the beginning of my senior year with fellow seniors. It felt comforting yet somehow nostalgic knowing these people will be the same people I’ll be walking alongside during graduation. Even the sole idea of returning to DOHS campus after being a former graduate was amazing,” stated senior Rustico-Anetera Gúzman.
Certain seniors also feel very strongly about this event, as it has a certain impact of nostalgia, as well as the hitting realization that they’re living in their senior year.
“It feels very bittersweet as I’ve looked up to my senior year ever since I was a little kid. I just want to be able to live in the moment and cherish my youth,” answered senior Chloe Sullivan, when asked how it felt to attend the first event as an official senior.
Although this was only the first senior event, it’s able to make an astronomical impact on the beginning of senior year, allowing new seniors to see the foundation of their senior year.
“I think it sets the transition by giving us the feeling of new beginnings. When we see the sunrise, it’s supposed to represent the rise of a new day, but in this case it’s a new year. It was almost like an initiation into your last year of high school,” continued Napeahi Salazar.
Although the beginning of the year may be similar to a sunrise, eventually it will always have to come to an end. See you at sunset!
