After getting students to quiet down, like every assembly that happens here at Desert Oasis, the welcome back assembly first started off with the national anthem. This time, JROTC led the anathem. Afterwards, the sports here at Desert Oasis were introduced. The choir then sang once all the sports here were introduced, then the band played. When the band was done playing, the first game of finishing the lyrics was played.
“It always brings so many smiles to every one of the students’ faces. It gets everyone so excited and happy to attend the assembly. That’s definitely one thing I wouldn’t want to leave,” said Hanna Montes.
The Desert Oasis dance crew then came out after the game and performed.
“The dance team was VERY GOOD, the crowd was fully engaged, they had the right energy and attitude. They seemed happy to be performing and confident in their performance,” said Kandice Eastwood, a junior here at Desert Oasis.
While the dance crew was performing, in the back auditorium were presidents and members of clubs here at Desert Oasis preparing to walk out with banners with their club name on them. The club parade represented clubs such as a book club, BSU, pride club, key club, etc.
“The parade forced teenagers to intake visual information rather than just listening, so many students likely learned of clubs they’d never known of previously,” Eastwood said. When the parade was over, games were played. A childhood favorite, musical chairs were played.
“I loved the games because it keeps everyone intrigued. It helps us to focus on the more serious parts of the assembly when we’re relaxed and engaged. I loved the musical chairs game as I mentioned before, it was great fun,” Eastwood stated.
Even after the assembly, many students kept talking about the musical chairs game. It made many students laugh and made this welcome back assembly memorable for many students.
“I feel like it was a little break from the informational stuff and kinda gave the students a laugh. My favorite was musical chairs. When the people playing fell it made me laugh!” Shared freshman Mia Dubler.
After the final game, a very intense performance by Mr.Hayes, one of the teachers here at Desert Oasis, was put on. At the end, this year’s homecoming theme was revealed.
“It was very fun and silly! I thought it was very creative and exciting,” said Eastwood.
The 2023 Desert Oasis homecoming theme is a starry night. It’s based on the famous painting, The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.
“The theme for homecoming is the cutest thing, in my opinion. It’s so warming and such a beautiful concept. I haven’t made up my mind on whether I’m attending but I hope I make the right decision,” stated Hanna Montes, a senior here at D.O.
This year’s homecoming dance is on October 7, 2023.. Students have already started to express their excitement about this year’s dance. Many are already planning their outfits as the theme is giving them a lot of creativity.
“That is secretly my dream theme. My dream homecoming dress is a deep blue dress that looks like it’s covered in stars, so I’m VERY happy about it, but I also love that it’s elegant and simple, leaving more room for creativity during prom season,” Eastwood shared.
