The 2023 school year has begun, and with summer coming to an end, we approach a new season of boys’ tennis at desert oasis high school.
The First tennis game will take place on August 22nd against Foothill high school.
DOHS has a long-standing and accoladed tennis team, and overall had an admiral 2022-2023 season.
“We were in the toughest division in the state and I believe we competed very well relative to the talent we had on the team,” says James Dinkel, the head tennis coach.
Preparation for any athletics is difficult, and with games quickly approaching, the pressure has begun to rise for DO athletes. The tennis team strives to get stronger week by week.
“We’re practicing every day and getting ready for matches. We have a lot of new faces this year so hopefully they will blend in and get better every day,” said Dinkel, when asked how preparation for the upcoming season was going.
“This season I’m looking forward to definitely win more games than last season and hopefully play solos,” says junior at Desert Oasis and returning player Dylan Yeager.
Sports present both rewards and challenges which contribute to the growth of athletes.
Despite last season’s obstacles, the team’s dedication led to a satisfying outcome.
“The most challenging part of playing tennis is definitely the heat”, said Yeager. “When it’s 102 degrees out and it’s humid it’s even worse. You sweat so much; you have to drink a lot of water.”
Playing sports helps develop long-lasting skills while representing our community’s spirit on the court.
Students are highly encouraged to attend the weekly tennis games and support all the sports teams at DOHS to further strengthen our community, and Dinkel couldn’t agree more.
“It is important because it promotes competitive nature. It helps build relationships with other students at this school with the same interest, and it does help with communications as far as learning how to react when you win, and how to react when you lose.”
