The annual golf season is ongoing at Desert Oasis High School!
Golf coach Cindy Dinkle and the DOHS Golf Team are hard at work preparing for their next tournament on October 12th.
“We always play all of the league teams. Every league match there are technically 10 league teams and I believe there are 7 or 8 of us that have players so we have a team of 4 that play consistently. We were able to play all 6 girls in that match,” informed Dinkle.
Along with the new year comes new students. The DOHS golf team has earned many new faces which has proven to be beneficial to the team.
Based on their last game Dinkle stated, “Overall we performed pretty well. We had one girl make the cut so she was able to play the back nine. As a team, we finished second behind Foothill and were pretty young. Mostly freshmen and sophomores.”
Desert Oasis student and returning Golfer Sophia Sangster said, “My last game wasn’t bad but I did miss the cut by one stroke, which I’m pretty upset about…I feel like player-wise, they’re definitely improved…gotten better. And then just overall I feel like it’s more organized.”
When playing sports there are many positive and negative aspects. In golf one of the main issues appears to be the heat.
Sangster commented,” Trying not to overheat… that’s a big problem. Just trying to stay focused and trying to do as many low shots as I can.”
Golf is one of the sports that athletes can’t only work on during the season and expect improvement. The golf team works hard year-round in order to score better when representing our school. Many exciting things are yet to come for the Desert Oasis High School golf team.
Dinkle expressed, ”I’m excited because I have good kids. I have fun kids to work with and love going to practice.”
The previous year the Desert Oasis golf team played well, and this year there appears to have been much improvement.
“Last year I would say we were less experienced and did not have any returners so I would say this year we have improved….We are able to play with a full team every match which didn’t happen last year. And our scoring has improved too.”
