Anya Gonzales, a junior at Desert Oasis High School, began her entrepreneurial journey by beginning her flower business named Gonzales Gardens. Commencing her venture in early October 2023, she initiated her business through a social media platform and showcased her products at the Homecoming event. Anya has expanded her business by launching a website, facilitating sales for both local and out-of-state customers.
“I am hoping to make more themed options like Spiderman, Batman, and items like that, hopefully expanding it more. I want to make graduation chords, corsages and stuff for prom, maybe arrangements for weddings.”
Selling at the Homecoming event was a successful night for Anya. Despite the short notice, she was able to create 75 individual flowers in various colors and sold each flower for $3, achieving a profit of $225 that night. Anya sold out of her flowers in less than an hour into the dance.
“Obviously I wanted to earn some extra money but it’s more important for me to be able to share special moments with other people. I want to make someone happy and for them to receive flowers as a present or in general I accomplish that goal.”
Gonzales Gardens has two official bookings with Desert Oasis High School for Prom 2023 and Sadie Hawkins. Each flower will be sold individually for $3 each, unless you pre-order for a bouquet. Outside of campus, Anya will be selling her flowers, in California, for Fresno Rainbow Pride on June 1st, of 2024.
“Talking to students and teachers here at Desert Oasis high school has definitely increased my profits, it’s a really great way to promote my business. Sharing my Instagram user and telling family and friends to share posts was also a great route to take as well.”
“I made my best friend a bouquet and that is where my inspiration came from. It was kind of like a spark or a lightbulb moment. It gave me an idea to attempt to make flowers out of ribbon and I was able to learn and continue from there.”
